The Alpinestars Scout waterproof boots have been in our line for a while, but we did not give them their due at first. Now, after some time with them, they fill an important slot in our line and we like them a lot. We will tell you why, but you can also watch
this video review of them.
The quick summary of why we like the Alpinestars Scout is this: there is nothing at this price point that is waterproof, walkable, and with the same level of support, durability, and function. It is the spec'ing of the Scout that makes them good, and they are one of the more protective boots we sell. Scouts are great choice for ADV and DS riders that either ride aggressively, in rough terrain, or want a firm boot......yet they are still comfortable and durable.
Scouts are made in Alpinestars far east production facility, using PU-coated leather. The combination of the low-cost country of manufacture, plus a less expensive leather, results in lots of band for the buck. The PU coated leather, which is less supple, actually gives more support, and is durable.
The overall combination feels sturdy, not cheap.
The Scout uses a waterproof breathable membrane (although the PU coated leather likely negates much of the breathability), 3 buckles, Goodyear welt sole construction (that can be resoled), a nice lugged sole, and molded PU supports in the shin and ankle area.
Fit: Alpinestars Scouts fit is normal, no need to upsize or downsize. Just cross against the EU size of your non-moto footwear. They have a normal width foot chamber, not what we would characterize as wide, but NOT narrow like a Sidi.
They are the best booty we sell for riders with big calves. There is plenty of room for a performance insole, something we recommend for all boots. The boots are also taller than many Adventure boots, at about 14.25" for a size 10.
Alpinestars Scout Boots give lots of features and support at a great price. Waterproof, rugged, durable. These are great boots for those that wander into rough terrain, or that (wisely) err to the side of protection. Our fave brand is still Gaerne, but these do a great job, for a great price, and thus are BOMBER recommended.
