The Alpinestars Venture Jacket has nailed it. Perfectly. Finally, someone who really gets what is needed in a technical off-road and performance enduro riding jacket. Seriously, we love this thing.
Rugged offroad riding requires different function than you would imagine. Being waterproof may seem important, but in reality ventilation is 10x more important (because you get hot). Built in armor may seem important, but really the ability to wear body armor is key. And being able to remove sleeves cannot be overpraised. It is also neck brace compatible (BTW, riding without the collar piece in hot weather is awesome for ventilation).
The first time you go on a ride that includes both a good length of slab, and 5 minutes of bulldogging your bike at .5 MPH through mud/sand/singletrack/rocks, you will completely understand.
The Alps Venture nails all these things. It is not a Starbucks jacket, it's a serious piece of gear for athletic riding in varying weather. We feel the price is a little high, and it may be a little warm in some seasons. But whenever a piece works this well, those are small consequences.
