I ordered these a few months ago after getting outstanding customer support from the Atomic Moto team. I can honestly say I have never worked with a company so interested in making sure you get what you want and need, and not just what they are trying to sell.
After asking a lot of questions, and corresponding with Brian through a few emails, he recommended the GX-1 for my riding style. I ride a KLR650 and ride 70/30 or so on the street. I was looking for more protective than comfortable boot, but this fills both requirements.
The construction and finish are top notch. They seem to offer a lot of protection for a "entry level" offering. When you are on the bike they are comfortable enough to not even notice you're wearing them. I wear Olympia AST pants and the boots can either fit under or over the pants. They are definitely warm, but with some good socks, they should be cool enough for summer. When walking around, they are a bit awkward and stiff, but not like a pair of ski boots. They are definitely easy for walking, as long as it isn't for hours. The soles are rather smooth, but they are still very grippy, even on the crappy stock KLR pegs.
Overall, these are great boot. I wear between 12.5-13 in shoes and boots, normal width. The 47s fit me great, and the toe box is generous enough to fit thicker socks without any issues.
The only problem I have had with these boots is the need to change my shift lever for an IMS extended shifter on my KLR. As soon as I swapped that out, everything worked great. |
