If you are looking for a waterproof off road pant at a good price, we feel the MSR Attack Pants are the best choice below $200 (above that amount, look at the Klim Traverse). The Attack Pants are reasonably durable, have good pockets, and large vents, all for roughly the same price as many non-waterproof pants. The pockets and vents work well, the fit is good, and they cost about the same as a pair of Klim Dakars (side note: in some ways they seem a copy of the Dakars). Anyway, they are a good waterproof addition to your gearbag for a small amount of coinage.
  • Large mesh-lined zippered vents
  • Side adjusters
  • Raised lower back panel
  • External cargo pockets
  • Leather panel on right inner knee
  • Waterproof fabric with seam tape throughout

The MSR Attack pants are well built, with heavy fabric on knees and seat, good size leather panel on inside right leg, large waterproof thigh vent zippers, good adjustable front buckle, adjustable Velcro sidebelt straps, quality thigh pockets which appear to have good waterproofness for phone, etc., and Velcro cuff straps. Fit is good with waist size only slightly tighter than equivalent sized jeans. I wear 34 jeans, and got 34 MSRs, and am happy with the fit with side straps out all the way. I don't wear padded riding shorts, but I think there is enough room to fit over them. I suspect that if I would have gotten the next size up, there would be plenty of adjustment to fit OK too. For the price at $143, these are the perfect winter weather riding pants. They keep out the wind and rain, but have just OK ventilation. Thigh vents are quite large, but with no other vents, air circulation is minimal. They do let out some heat, but I think they would be pretty hot to wear in summer.
