These boots feel very sturdy and protective which I love. Protection was my top priority with this purchase and I feel these boots will hold up to whatever challenge I put them to.
Having wide feet I was worried that they would be too tight, but the fit is just right. Maybe a bit snug, but the sizing in my eye seems a bit generous and there's enough room for my feet to not feel cramped.
I did have one issue with the lowest buckle on the boot. With my high arches/instep, the part of the buckle where the strap is held in place created a pressure point that made my feet/toes fall asleep after about 5 minutes of wearing the boots. Even leaving the buckle at the widest setting would not alleviate this issue.
I ended up taking some side cutters to the retaining bit of the strap and cut the protruding bit flush with the rest of the strap parts. After this mod the boots feel much more comfortable and I do not have issues with my toes falling asleep. The only concern now is that the removable part of the strap could "fall out", however if the buckle is left done up when the boots are stored there does not seem to be an issue.
All in all, I highly recommend these boots to someone with protection as their top priority and reasonably wide feet. If you have high arches/instep, be aware that there may be pressure points, but easily fixed through a simple "trim".
It is so tight around the ankle it will leave a bruise. Maybe I’ve big ankle bones.
So far it has been difficult to contact Atomic in order to determine what my options are.
From my hunting days, I learned the only durable, breathable and waterproof membrane is GoreTex. I've been hoping for years someone would make a full size MX boot with GoreTex. So stoked it has finally happened, and by the best MX boot maker out there, Gaerne (at least in my experience).
The folks at Atomic had the boots in my size in stock and shipped them out quickly. They are always good to work with.
The Goretex liner comes up 3/4 of the way to the top of the boot. I had to step in about 15" of water with them last weekend, and they worked as advertised. Dry feet. And I have no worries they will stay waterproof for years to come.
The SG-22s are expensive boots but worth the stretch if you can make it. Comfortable right out of the box just like everyone says. I went with Atomic Motos suggestion to focus on the EU size numbers rather than the US, and it turns out all my 10.5 US sneakers were labelled 44.5 EU. That is what I ordered, and it fits perfectly. I think the Gaerne size chart has a different mapping for 10.5 US, but I ignored that went directly to the EU sizing
Finally purchased a pair of the Gaerne SG-22 Enduro Gore Tex Boots.
I was concerned about sizing but Brian assured me that once I received the boots to try them on and walk around the house a bit to make sure they were the correct size. If they didn't feel right I could exchange them for a different size. Turns out the fit was just right. My feet measure 11" long, I usually wear a 10 or 10-1/2 (mens) but some shoes I take an 11. Well the SG-22 10-1/2 was just right in length and I am very please with the boots so far. I have only two rides to date but here is my impression thus far.
They are STIFF!!! Which is the exact reason I was looking at these boots, I'm 72 and my old bones don't heal the way they use to so I wanted all the protection I could get but still be able to walk around a bit. These boots thus far are just right. I certainly wouldn't go for any kind of hike but walking around is not a problem, sort of like ski boots but with a fare amount more flexibility.
Comfort wise they are good, I have narrow feet so I have taken up the space with a thicker sock but I have also worn them with "regular" thickness socks and they would be fine that way as well.
So far I am very please with my purchase and thankful to Brian for taking the time to email AND call me to discuss sizing, ultimately what he recommended was spot on.
One note though, these are BIG BOOTS and I had to adjust my shift and rear brake lever to accommodate them but easily done and I think that this is not uncommon when using "Off Road" style boots.
Thanks Brian! Thanks Atomic Moto!!

Bought this boot to encase my feet for riding - due to extensive foot surgeries I do not want to EVER suffer injury/impact/abrasion to my feet or ankles so I searched for boots that offered above average support. The CE Rating on this boot is 2-2-2-2. The ratings are hard to learn from manufacturer and dealer websites for some reason. 2 is the highest rating, 1 is the lower rating, and 0 is essentially going barefoot. The 4 buckles will keep the boot on my foot with no doubts (protection isn't any good if the boot flies off the foot. Police find riders boots and shoes often missing both on impact and abrasion crashes). The side-bend support is very good in these boots which was important to me. The sole is rigid which is another key attribute so if you go toe down your boot/foot doesn't rip backward and if you go toe up into the ground the sole won't rip off or twist the ankle to mush. The side panel and front panel are plenty adequate for ankle crush protection and smash resistance/protection if an object is hit. This is the first product I've owned Made in Romania and I am well impressed. The buckles are nifty and durable. Comfort?? They are comfy now but took a good 20 hours of walking about, flexing, bending, stairs etc. to get comfortable. I jam a softball down into the ankle area when I'm not wearing them to encourage the plastic boot plating to conform to a shape similar to my foot. These are structured stiff boot and required break-in for me. I keep the top 2 buckles buckled tight when I'm not wearing them to encourage the uppersto take on a cylindrical shape rather than being flat which makes the shafts more comfy on my calves/shins. Happy I bought them - they are very protective yet comfortable enough to walk around in and wear all-day and on multi-day rides. I am able to insert custom orthotics in for improved arch support and comfort. Toe box is thick so a bit of adjustment to my gear shift linkage was helpful. Glad I bought them and I'd buy them again. They are warm but not hot. Talk to Brian for exact sizing/fit. He (and I)recommend a size larger so that if ever you crash your toes don't smash into the inside end of the boot. A shot of silicone spray makes them easy to slip into (talcum powder could work too if needed). No negatives to comment on. They are solid protections, fairly comfortable, stylish I suppose and do what I want them to do. I wear them under my riding/touring pants - it's a snug fit but does fit. I don't like riding without them. I highly recommend you wear protective boots when riding ANY motorcycle not just off-road or adventure. Be safe!
They do seem like a good boot, overall I like them but have 4 issues. Main and biggest is the strap length, the straps in all positions are just way too short. Next I ordered a 14/49 and they are still pretty narrow. Third issue is they should mention treating the leather on the boot before first use or just do it from factory. A lot of wear where where the straps rub the leather, and they are not very water resistant. Lastly, I bought these because I thought that they would be a good balance of control, feel and protection. They are pretty much like every other boot where you cannot really feel the controls much at all. I am not a fan of the plastic molding in a toe box.
This all being said I do like the boot. I am hoping that they last if few seasons. I can't say I feel they offer a ton more protection or substantial gain over something like an O'Neill Ryder boot. But for three times the cost. I'm hoping I get three times to use, as the cheaper boots tend to only last a season or two.
I reached out to Brian from atomic and he helped get me into the best boots for my feet! Very comfortable and fit like a glove thanks again Brian
Comfortable!!! No sag!!These are great for motorcycling and I can see multi-sporting them to skiing, ice hockey, running, etc. Impressive socks and comfortable!!!
I'm happy with theses socks. They are the right length for my new Motocross boots. I can't say enough about Atomic-Moto, they are just great to deal with. I highly recommend dealing with them, no matter what you buy.
